Special Spaces of Knoxville is transforming this former garage into a very special bedroom, custom designed for Hailee Green, an 8-year-old Shelbyville girl who suffers from Sanfilippo Syndrome. The special tempered window was installed last week to replace a garage door which formerly occupied the space.

Lang Lang, Perlman to perform with Toronto Symphony
Chinese pianist Lang Lang and great violinist Itzhak Perlman will perform with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra as part of its 2008-2009 season. Lang Lang, artist in residence for China's Summer Olympics in Beijing, will have a one-week residency in Toronto. (Toronto Symphony Orchestra) Lang Lang, whose concerts in Toronto this spring sold out, will participate in a week-long residency with the TSO that will include several community engagements, according to TSO music director Peter Oundjian, who on Monday released details of the coming season. Among Lang Lang's performances will be the Canadian premiere of Tan Dun's Piano Concerto with the TSO. Perlman appears as part of the TSO's Great Performances series, open to subscribers only, which also features American violinist Joshua Bell and Yo-Yo Ma performing with the Silk Road Ensemble.

Experience: What is the largest operational budget and largest capitol budget for which you have been responsible, either as a manager or overseer?Ben Sullivan - As a project manager for an architecture firm working in Denver, Colorado, I oversaw the design and construction of mixed-use residential construction projects with capitol budgets ranging from 4 to 8 million dollars. This responsibility involved creating projects within tight budgets & timelines, negotiating contractor bids, approving construction draws, change-order negotiations and general oversight of the progress of these time and money sensitive projects. My primary experience with operational budgets comes from the running of my own small design business here on Kaua'i for the past six years.I certainly see a solid financial background as valuable experience to bring to the KIUC Board, and my experience in construction management will be an asset to the Board.
Matsui could be on block as winter meetings end
The winter meetings might be over, but the wheeling and dealing around baseball isn't done just yet. Rumors swirled around the Opryland today that the Giants are interested in Hideki Matsui, though Brian Cashman wouldn't comment on that at all. Moving Matsui would open left field for Johnny Damon and the DH spot for Jason Giambi, but whether Matsui would waive his no-trade clause remains to be seen – assuming the Yankees are actually considering moving him. What will happen from here? Johan Santana is still a Twin, Aaron Rowand doesn't have a team yet, Erik Bedard and Dan Haren may or may not still be on the block and the Yankees still have some holes in their bullpen. Overall, these meetings were uneventful. We had the one blockbuster trade with the Tigers and Marlins, a late-night signing by the Dodgers of Andruw Jones and other than that, a whole lot of nothing.
Fire sale as credit crunch hits MFS
EMBATTLED Gold Coast tourism and funds management group MFS has started the fire sale of assets to stave off corporate collapse. As thousands of nervous investors watch from the sidelines, MFS announced yesterday that it had made a paltry $43.5 million profit on the sale of its stake in an aged care company. MFS – an investment group which owns the BreakFree Hotel chain and Harvey World Travel – is struggling to erase a $1.7 billion debt stemming from the global credit crunch, including $220 million payable within three months. The crisis has wiped hundreds of millions of dollars from the personal fortunes of the company's founders. Former chief executive Michael King has gone to ground at his $20 million Elysian Fields Polo Estate near Canungra in the Gold Coast hinterland as the group that liked to promote itself as a fast growing Queensland version of Macquarie Bank has unravelled.
