So if you pay attention to your neighborhood, you'll know what the norm is. So if something is different, you'll recognize it a lot quicker."

A bone chip from a pre-existing condition from high school led to a November surgery that ended Vilma's season and effectively ended his Jets career.

He only started jogging recently, but hopes to be running at full speed within a month. Vilma is in the last year of his contract.

Rams part ways with WR Bruce
Wide receiver Isaac Bruce, the last remaining player from the team's 1995 move from Los Angeles to St. Louis, was released after each side failed to reach a lower salary number. Bruce, 36, was scheduled to make $5 million this year, including a $2 million roster bonus due Friday.

A year ago, Bruce was cut but then was re-signed by the Rams. This time, St. Louis decided to part ways, leaving the Rams with Torry Holt and Drew Bennett as their top two receivers.

From the Editor :

The England side for the first Test against New Zealand is pretty much nailed on to be team that played against the Select XI with Sidebottom replacing Tremlott. Do you reckon that team will beat the Black Caps? Let's hear your predictions, real or whacky, for the forthcoming series.

After the record-breaking efforts of their batsmen, South Africa's bowlers will be keen to make sure that Bangladesh don't get a foothold in the first Test. Will the Bangladesh batsmen hold out or will this one be over in quick time?

Finally, we've selected our team of month for February. Take a look, give it a think and tell us where you disagree.

CITIES OF STYLE GET ON LINE

To my right an electronic screen detailed the time, destination, outside temperature and travelling speed of the train in bright red figures.

Overhead, a dubbed Hollywood movie flicked into life. The whole thing was about as nerve-racking as opening a pint of milk.

I shunned a Spanish-speaking Kevin Spacey in favour of the window, playing out scenes of the largely undiscovered region between Barcelona and Madrid flashing past at nearly 200mph.

For the next two-and-a-half hours the primarily agricultural landscape displayed its unusual beauty to the full, moving rapidly from conifer forest, to rocky hillside and vast open plains under cloud cover so low I felt I could reach up and touch it.

Yet the overwhelming feeling was one of immense stillness, thanks to the almost unnerving flatness of the farmland and rocky scrub stretching over the horizon in all directions.

An infernal tax scheme comes back

Add a $20 tax to cars, trucks and motorcycles.

Tax speeders.

Add a $1-per-pack tax to cigarettes.

Add a one-cent tax to the statewide sales tax and perhaps another one-cent regionally.

Expand the sales tax to groceries and to 174 categories of services, using the proceeds to reduce property taxes on homesteads and cars, trucks and motorcycles.

Georgians who prefer Democrats and who feared that putting Republicans in control under the Gold Dome represented a lurch to the right needn't have worried. This is where the old gang left off.

House Speaker Glenn Richardson appeared last week before the House Ways and Means Committee to propose something that Democrats never dared bring forth when Zell Miller and his band started studying tax revision 16 years ago.
