| Staying safe with portable generator
But you can be snug and safe with your generator, as long as you follow the rules. First, let's look at the dangers. Carbon monoxide:ΠThe gasoline-powered motor that runs a generator is an internal combustion engine, much like a miniature automobile engine. Like a car engine, the generator motor gives off carbon monoxide -- a deadly, colorless, odorless gas. If you start to feel sick or dizzy while using a generator, get some fresh air immediately. Never run a generator indoors. Keep it outside, away from doors, windows and vents -- both yours and your neighbor's. Experts advise that you also avoid running the generator in a garage -- even with the door open. Likewise, avoid placing your running generator in a basement, crawl space or any enclosed area.
Linear Introduces Market's First UL-Listed, Battery-Operated RF-Based ...
ORLANDO, Fla. --(Business Wire)-- At the 2008 International Builder Show this week, Linear LLC, an innovator in the RF security market, will unveil the DXS-80, the first carbon monoxide (CO) detector that is UL listed and fully battery operated with a built-in RF transmitter. This industry innovation marks the first time a UL-listed wireless, battery-operated CO detector has been offered for residential use. Military in a dilemma
During the last two days the troops killed at least 16 Tiger cadres in six confrontations along the Muhamalai FDL. On Friday troops at the Kilali defence lines, retaliated a small arm and mortar fire by the LTTE around 11.45 a.m. killing at least 2-3 LTTE cadres. One soldier was critically injured in the incident and was taken to Palali Base Hospital. Later, the soldier succumbed to his injuries. Separately in the same area, army snipers shot two LTTE cadres who had been stalking towards the Security Forces' FDL on the same morning. At Muhamalai FDL, four LTTE cadres were killed in two separate clashes broke out on Friday morning between 9.45 a.m. to 10.45 a.m. when troops detected and attacked at a group of terrorists ahead of the FDL. Two LTTE cadres were killed in this incident.
Notes: Timetable laid out for Colon
Less than a week in camp, the Red Sox, beginning with pitching coach John Farrell, like what they see in terms of arm strength from the 34-year-old right-hander, and Friday laid out a plan for him. "March 15 is kind of a template that we work by," Farrell said in pointing toward Boston's game against Cincinnati in Fort Myers. "There's a progression leading up to that. Tuesday will be his first bullpen day. Those will always provide us opportunities to evaluate his arm strength, how he recovers, and he'll go through a similar every other day bullpen routine as every other pitcher went through at the start of camp here." Farrell likely wouldn't have felt comfortable outlining the plan unless Colon had the strong outing he had in playing catch in the outfield at City of Palms Park, stretching out to 120 feet.

For Hillary, the 'Bill' may be coming due
American TV screens are now full of one of the most aggressive attack ads in recent history. Dubbed 'Children', it in effect suggests that a vote for Barack Obama will lead to such weakness on national security that the American homeland will be in peril. It is shot over pictures of sleeping babies and it appeals directly to the 'security moms' demographic that Clinton needs. But the facts on the ground remain the same. It has finally come down to this: on Tuesday, Clinton needs to win Texas and Ohio. Anything less could force her from the race and spell the end of the Clinton dynasty. The revered Clinton brand, once so confident of a second act, is now desperately fighting to stop the curtain coming down early. James C. Humes, a visiting fellow in history at the University of Colorado, writes in the Pueblo Chiefain: A president is barred by his country's constitution from having more than two terms.
Oil prices close at more than $100 for the first time
Gasoline and heating oil prices appeared to lead yesterday's wide advance in energy prices due to the explosion Monday at Alon USA's Big Spring, Texas, refinery, which could be shuttered for two months. "The refinery fire in Texas is making people a little concerned," said Michael Lynch, president of Strategic Energy & Economic Research Inc. in Amherst, Mass. March gasoline jumped 10.93 cents to settle at a record $2.6031 a gallon, and March heating oil rose 11.45 cents to settle at $2.7614 a gallon, also a record. A threat by a rebel group in Nigeria to escalate attacks on the nation's crude oil infrastructure helped boost oil prices. The rebels were acting in response to rumors that the government had killed a captured leader, whom authorities later said was safe and well.
