The chair at the end of the Waldoboro selectmen's table was noticeably vacant Tuesday night as close to 100 people filed into the meeting room at the town office. Most selectmen's meetings find fewer than half a dozen citizens in attendance, and most find Town Manager Lee Smith in his seat at the end of the table.
Smith was not at the regularly scheduled select board meeting, but employment lawyer Clare Payne was in the audience as First Selectman Carleton Johnson announced that Smith had tendered his resignation, effective Jan. 1. No reason was given.
Payne was on hand as the legal counsel who helped draft the agreement, apparently in the executive session that commenced earlier that afternoon.
The resignation marks the end of Smith's 26-year career as Town Manager.

A WEALTHY Gold Coast doctor and his wife actively promoted an international investment scam that has fleeced nearly $7 million from dozens of prominent business people over the past two years. Dr Terry Miller and his spouse, Melanie Leigh, encouraged about 85 people – including friends, family, employees and even patients – to invest in an alleged foreign exchange and commodities trading system generating "profits" of 20 per cent a month. Stunned and embarrassed investors – many of whom lost between $50,000 and $300,000 – say the couple acted as the ideal recruiters for the scam, with their "his and hers" Porsches, overseas vacations, renovated waterfront home and lavish lifestyle. Among the victims are Global Prestige Realty principal Angela Petropoulos, demolition business owner Ross Mitchell, Ipswich Councillor Charlie Pisasale and several Gold Coast doctors.

HTC Increases Sales By Over 30 Percent
From January to November of 2006, HTC reported a revenue of $98 million compared to the $107.2 million earned during the same period in 2007. That's just a 9% increase, but you have to admit that things are looking pretty bright for HTC.
